Utrecht is often considered one of the Netherlands’ hidden gems. While it doesn’t have the mass appeal of Amsterdam, the city leaves its visitors in awe with unique architecture, charming cafes, and cultural offerings. And to make things even better, you can experience a lot even if you can’t stay for long. Check out how to make the most out of your time if you have just 24 hours to explore Utrecht.

Grab a Bite at De Ontdekking

De Ontdekking is a cozy café in Voorstraat that is the perfect starting point for your Utrecht exploring mission. Get a coffee, tea, or freshly squeezed juice, try some of their baking goods, and you are ready to get going.

Head to DOMunder

DOMunder is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Utrecht and is less than a 10-minute walk from De Ontdekking. Here you can learn more about the city’s history through archeological findings and compelling multi-media presentations.

Enjoy the Idyllic Nature of Pandhof van de Dom

Since DOMunder can be claustrophobic at times, being situated completely underground, your next stop should be Pandhof van de Dom garden. Part of the Dom Church, it is a great spot to relax, get some fresh air, and smell the flowers. You will also have a great view of Dom tower, the St. Martin’s Cathedral, and the intriguing University Hall building.

Get a Lunch at Soep-er Utrecht

Soep-er Utrecht is praised restaurant just a couple of hundred meters from Pandhof van de Dom. They serve amazing soups and a variety of Dutch dishes.

Get Musical at Museum Speelklok

Next, walk across the canal, marvel at its bridges, and then visit Museum Speelklok. It is a small museum dedicated to self-playing musical instruments. You’ll find many intriguing items here, including cuckoo clocks and a variety of music boxes.

Hop on a Bus to Castle De Haar

Unfortunately, it would take you a while to get to Castle De Haar on foot, so we recommend hopping on a bus. You can also rent a bike, which is a preferred form of transportation in Utrecht. Castle De Haar is the biggest castle in the whole of the Netherlands and will amaze you with its grandiose looks and lavish interiors.

Finish the Night at Tivoli

Tivoli is an iconic music venue in Utrecht that has two locations where you can find something interesting every night. This includes DJ sets, live concerts, dance evenings, and much more.
