Australia isn’t your first thought when planning to festival hop, but the southern continent has a music schedule that’s worth considering when planning your trip.
Tamworth Country Music Festival
Never heard of Tamworth before? This is a great way to discover this New South Wales town. For ten days every January, the festival takes over the town with gigs in various venues, including pubs, the regional entertainment center, and many street performances. The music selection includes country music, bluegrass, folk, rockabilly, and even rock’n’roll.
Rainbow Serpent Festival
This Victoria-based festival is known for its colorful costumes, art installations, new age workshops, and world food markets. The festival takes its name from an Aboriginal Dreamtime myth and prides itself on its alternative lifestyle spirit. The music selection is primarily electronic and includes techno, trance, ambient, and house music.
Byron Bay Bluesfest
Every Easter in Australia’s zaniest town, you can take part in one of the world’s foremost contemporary music festivals. Founded in 1990 and spread across the Byron Bay area, this five-day festival brings together over 100,000 people to enjoy blues, roots, and some other genres like folk music and alternative rock. The festival’s historical line-ups are quite star-studded and include names like Bob Dylan, B. B. King, and Counting Crows.
