Egypt is one of the most fascinating African countries, and you can explore its rich history in its many amazing museums. Some of the best ones are located in Cairo, and here are three that you shouldn’t miss for the world during your visit.

The Egyptian Museum

Cairo’s most popular museum is also the oldest archaeological museum in the Middle East. It’s home to the largest collection of ancient Pharaonic antiquities in the entire world, housing 170,000 items, including such iconic artifacts as the Gold Mask of Tutankhamun.

Museum of Islamic Art

One of the greatest museums in this corner of the world is home to over 100,000 artifacts hailing from all over the Islamic world. It’s housed inside a grand restored building, which houses everything from rare woodwork and ceramics to glass, crystal, and textile objects, in addition to rare manuscripts of the Qur’an.

The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization

The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization opened its doors in 2017 and went on to become one of Cairo’s most visited museums. Its collection includes 50,000 artifacts, which explore the different historical periods that encompass Egypt, from ancient times to the present day. Most notably, it’s home to 22 mummies, including 18 kings and four queens.
