Berat Castle

There’s the ancient castle looking over the city that you shouldn’t miss. The fortress there dates back to the 4th century, but some parts of it have been replaced in the 1200s. It’s still magnificent and worth a visit.

Berat could not be more stunning if it tried. Surrounded by snow capped mountains with a river running through the middle it is filled beautiful medieval houses, mosques and churches. These seen to be delicately balanced balanced on it’s rugged hills. Above it all is the castle, keeping careful guard over the city. Onufri Museum of Icons

This iconography museum is an amazing place where you can see the works of some of the most important orthodox iconography painters. It’s located in an 18th century church, which makes it even more awesome.

You can see old houses and narrow streets around the city and get the vibe of the local life. Go to Berat’s outskirts, and you’ll easily spot a shepherd watching over his sheep or some other similarly surreal scene.
