3 Rules You Should Live By When Having a Short Layover

Most people hate long layovers because they’re not sure how to kill countless hours at the airport, but short layovers are much, much worse. They’re an anxiety-inducing experience because you’re constantly worried that you’ll miss your next flight, but following these three rules will make them more bearable.

Front Seat

The closer to the exit you sit, the earlier you’ll be able to leave the plane and head to your next flight. Reserve a front left seat that ensures a quick exit whenever possible. If you can’t find one, ask the flight attendant to switch you up or help you leave early once you land.

Come Prepared

If your layout is extremely short, it’s recommended to study the airport layout beforehand. You should also try to find out from which terminal your connecting flight leaves and figure out how much time it will take to switch terminals.

Travel Light

The less baggage you carry, the easier you’ll move around the airport. Some will advise you to only take carry-on baggage so you wouldn’t have to claim it and check it again, but you can still check a bag if you’re traveling with the same airline on both flights. Carry-ons might slow you down, so it’s best to check your luggage and only carry essentials in a backpack.
