The air is crisp. The leaves are starting to change colors. You’re no longer dying of the summer heat. In other words, it’s the perfect time to take a road trip and spend a little bit of extra time outside. Lucky for you, there a plenty of incredible destinations to explore. Here are three of our favorite fall road-trip routes.

Blue Ridge Parkway, Virginia to North Carolina

Stretching 469 miles from Shenandoah National Park to the Great Smoky Mountains, the Blue Ridge Parkway will give you a spectacular display of fall foliage. Wind through the Appalachian Highlands and stop at overlooks for breathtaking views of colorful valleys. Don’t miss Grandfather Mountain for its mile-high swinging bridge and the charming town of Asheville for some great food along the way.

Kancamagus Highway, New Hampshire

Known locally as “The Kanc,” this 34-mile stretch of Route 112 through the White Mountain National Forest is a true fall gem. The road climbs to nearly 3,000 feet, opening panoramic views of the surrounding mountains ablaze with autumn colors.

Columbia River Highway, Oregon

For a West Coast fall experience, drive the historic Columbia River Highway. This 70-mile route parallels the Columbia River Gorge, offering stunning views of waterfalls framed by golden fall foliage. Make sure to check out Multnomah Falls, a 611-foot-tall cascade. And take time to explore the charming riverfront towns along the way!
