Located at more or less the bottom of the world (or at least the tip of Africa’s cape), Cape Town, South Africa has something to offer anybody, from the animal lover to the foodie to the adventurer. Here are three things not to miss while you’re there.

Go Up Table Mountain

Table Mountain, which dominates the Cape Town skyline, is absolutely iconic and you should definitely make your way to the top when you’re there. There are plenty of hikes that can get you up or, if you want a chiller experience, you can take the cable car, which is the easiest and fastest way to get up.

Visit Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens

While you’re at Table Mountain, pay a visit to Kirstenbosch, a botanical garden full of exotic plant life and stunning landscapes. It’s cheap, open year-round, and offers a can’t-miss summer concert series from November to March (Southern hemisphere, remember?). It’s the perfect place for a picnic.

See the Penguins at Boulders Beach

There are lots of beautiful beaches for swimming in Cape Town, but this one isn’t for getting in the water. It’s for strolling and enjoying the company of the beach’s wild African penguin colony, a totally unique experience.
