A lot of the time, travel hacks look better on paper than they are in practice. They seem convenient, but they don’t actually make enough of a difference to really become a part of your travel routine. But sometimes, you find those hidden gem travel hacks that become something you absolutely can’t live without. Here are three hacks that definitely fall into that category.

Don’t Eat Near Tourist Attractions

If you want to save money on your meals and avoid tourist traps, one of the best things you can do is to avoid eating near the most popular tourist attractions. Try to get at least a ten-minute walk away from your museums and landmarks before sitting down at a restaurant.

Ask Locals for Their Recommendations

It might not always be easy, but if you ever get the chance to strike up a conversation with a local, it’s a fantastic way to get recommendations for establishments and places to visit that you won’t read about online. It could even just be your hostel’s front desk person.

Try the Waiter’s Recommendation

If you’re a foodie and don’t want to miss the best food in any location you go to, always ask the waiter at the restaurants you visit what they recommend eating. And don’t hesitate to order their recommendation, even if it’s something you don’t understand the name of. (Of course, mention any dietary restrictions or allergies you have first.)
