Zadar is one of Croatia’s most beautiful coastal cities, but there’s more to it than its beautiful beaches and Roman remains. This city is home to some of the most unusual attractions on Croatia’s Dalmatian coast and these three deserve a spot on your bucket list because you can’t find them anywhere else in the world.

Sea Organ

Sea Organ is one of Zadar’s top tourist attractions, and it has to be seen (and heard!) to be believed. It’s an architectural marvel and a giant experimental musical instrument wrapped into one, with a staircase and tubes built beneath it, allowing it to play the music by way of the sea waves.

Pillar of Shame

This historic pillar looks pretty harmless today, but it used to strike fear into the heart of locals in the Middle Ages. It was once used as a tool for public punishments and humiliation and that’s how it earned its nickname.

Monument to the Sun

Sea Organ isn’t the only art installation in Zadar that uses natural forces to create something truly extraordinary.  Monument to the Sun is located right next to it, and it uses a system of multi-layered glass plates and photovoltaic solar modules to create a unique light show.
