Although Scandanavia is one of the most wonderful places in the world and has plenty to offer, it’s hard to not feel disappointed if you stop by and don’t get to see the famous Northern Lights.

Here are 5 great spots away from the city’s light pollution, where you have a better chance of seeing the light show in the sky.

Seltjarnarnes, Iceland

Technically, anywhere in Iceland you would have a good chance of seeing the lights. The best time to go is fall through to spring, and there are a whole bunch of great campsites and Airbnb’s where you can easily look up at the night sky.

Abisko, Sweden

The northern part of Sweden is remote, so you have a good chance of escaping the city lights and catching nature’s own. Abisko is a small village, but if you’re willing to climb the mountains, there are plenty of spots up high for admiring the show.

North Finland

If you head far north in Finland, the lights shine almost every other night. You can stay overnight in a glass igloo, so you can keep warm and make sure you don’t miss a second of the show.
