Even if you manage to book a cheap flight, your airplane rides can still come with a pretty high price tag. A trip to the airport comes with a long list of unnecessary expenses and here are five that are best avoided.

Airport Shuttle

Unless your hotel or job is providing a free airport shuttle, find a cheaper way to get to and from the airport. Public transportation is the most affordable option and most major airports are well-connected to the city center.

Expensive Food

Unless you have a really long layover, there’s no need to waste your money on expensive airport food, especially since packing your own snacks is always an option.

Duty-Free Shops

Food is not the only expensive thing you’ll stumble upon at an airport. So is pretty much every other item at duty-free shops and it’s highly likely you can find them all at a lower rate outside of the airport.

Baggage Fees

Carefully check the rules of the airline you’re flying with before packing your suitcase so you could avoid paying unnecessary baggage fees.

Airport Lounge

If you’re a frequent traveler, paying the airport lounge fee may pay off because it comes with complimentary Wi-Fi, beverages, snacks, and other perks, but you should avoid it if you’re not flying on a regular basis.
