Despite the fact it’s Australia’s administrative capital, Canberra isn’t even one of the top three cities that tourists want to visit when they go to this country. But it certainly deserves more attention, since it has a lot to offer – especially if you’re a fan of modern architecture. Here are a few spots worth a visit.
Parliament House
Parliament House is one of Canberra’s main landmarks and the new building officially opened its doors in 1988. Once you’re done admiring its boomerang-shaped design, you can check out its lavish main foyer, since some of the main areas are open to the public.
Australian War Memorial
This war memorial officially opened in 1941, and architects Emil Sodersten and John Crust had a pretty limited budget at their disposal. The building contains three different parts, including the shrine-like commemorative area, and it comes with a sculpture garden.
National Gallery
Museums in Canberra are truly special, but if you only have time to visit one, the National Gallery of Australia is a must. The brutalist exterior will sweep you off your feet, and things will only get more amazing once you go inside.
