Have you ever watched that scene in the movie “Tangled” and wished you could see it for yourself? Well, it’s your lucky day, because we’re here to tell you that you can!

From cultural traditions in countries like Thailand and India, to celebrations of the ocean in Japan, lantern festivals take place for all sorts of reasons. But whatever the celebration, they are a true sight to behold. Here are the most spectacular lantern festivals you should start planning a visit to.

Yi Peng Lantern Festival, Thailand

Originating from the Lanna culture of Northern Thailand, the Yi Peng lantern festival is celebrated on the second full moon of the Lanna’s calendar month. Lanterns are released into the air to mark the end of the monsoon season and beginning of the cool season.

RiSE Lantern Festival, Nevada, United States

Every year, locals and visitors alike travel to the Mojave desert in Nevada to watch thousands of lanterns rise high above the Las Vegas Strip. It’s a celebration of music, art, and individuality where visitors can write their own message on their sky lanterns and honor whatever message inspires them.

Tsunan Snow Festival, Japan

The Tsunan region gets some of the heaviest snowfall in the world, and they’ve held a snow festival every year since 1974. Visitors can try winter activities like snow biking, snow banana boating and the climax of the evening is the lanterns being launched into the sky at night.

After their historic win in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, everybody is talking about Argentina. The South American country is home to an endless list of natural wonders and cities you could spend your whole life exploring, and there’s never been a better time to check it out for yourself.

It’s home to lively cities, majestic waterfalls and tranquil wilderness, so there’s really something for everyone. If you’re planning your next trip there, here are a few spots you simply can’t miss.

Iguazu Falls

Located right on the border between Argentina and Brazil, you can access this UNESCO World Heritage Site from either country. The huge waterfalls are one of the most spectacular natural sites South America has to offer. It’s actually made up of 150 to 300 individual waterfalls and visitors can get pretty close thanks to the water thanks to the viewing platforms leading to the bottom of the falls, an area known as the Devil’s Throat.

Cafayate

The province of Salta is home to one of the most magnificent natural wonders of the world. Most people arriving to Cafayate are on their way to the Quebrada de Cafayate—a stunning drive complete with towering red rock formations. It’s made up of more than 60 kilometers of paved roads carved from sandstone and it’ll definitely make your Instagram feed stand out from the rest.

Southern Fuegian Railway

More commonly known as the “Train of the End of the World”, this steam train railway is a real sight to be seen. Located in the Ushuaia region, it’s considered the southernmost railway in the world. You can get a beautiful ride into the Tierra del Fuego National Park, complete with snacks and local specialties on board including alfajores and empanadas.

When exploring a new country, it’s fun to fully immerse yourself in the culture. And one of the best ways to try living like a local is through food. There are so many delicious and tempting restaurants to try, that you might not have thought about scheduling a time to go to the supermarket in your itinerary. It is a vacation, after all. But we’re here to tell you why trying out the local supermarkets in a new place might be more fun than you expected.

You Might Find a New Souvenir

Leading up to a trip to Paris, you’d be much more likely to plan time discovering the croissants and escargots they have to offer than finding yourself in the snack aisle of a convenience store, looking at the French Potato chip selection.  A new flavor of chips could become a staple of your trip, so why not buy one last bag to take with you as a souvenir?

Get a Glimpse of the Local Culture

There are so many new and exciting establishments abroad that it seems ridiculous to travel all that way, just to go to a supermarket. After all, you might be wanting to go down the fancier route. Sometimes it’s fun to check out the foreign versions of the classic foods you know and love. What’s even more exciting is to see what supplies the locals are using to whip up their favorite dishes.

You’ll Get a New Reason to Go Back

Next thing you know, you’ll be looking to see if you can buy that special chocolate you tried, or that strange new flavor of potato chips once you get home. And the next time you find yourself in Paris, you’ll know exactly which French flavor takes you back to your last holiday. Local supermarket chains might just find a special place in your heart.
