Québec, Canada is like a winter wonderland come the holiday season. The city is given a seasonally-appropriate makeover and appears to be lit up from top to bottom. The season also brings fun and festive events that any traveler can enjoy. There are markets to check out and even an annual toboggan race. Grab your mittens—Québec gets very cold this time of year—and head up north for one of the best places to be at Christmas time.

German Christmas Market at the Place de l’Hôtel-de-Ville

Nowhere in Québec says Christmas more than the Place de l’Hôtel-de-Ville. The Place (Place used here meaning the French word for “Square,”) has a little Christmas shop known as Boutique de Noël that appears to have taken over entirely with lights and decorations in every corner. Be sure to check out the German Christmas Market for some local, handmade art and a warm beverage.

Rue de Petit-Champlain

This street was voted Canada’s Favorite in 2014, and for good reason. It’s incredibly quaint, even more so around the holiday season. See the church and stop into some of the local shops, or simply take a stroll and soak it all in.

Toboggan Run at  Le Château Frontenac

Le Château Frontenac is probably the most well-known landmark in Québec. It’s a beautiful, grand hotel and even non-guests are welcome to stop by to see the exquisite holiday decorations. Every year outside of the Château a toboggan run is held where thrill-seekers can expect to reach speeds of over 40 miles an hour!
