When you think of reasons to visit Nevada, you probably think first and foremost of Las Vegas. While that’s certainly an awesome destination for a party, you may not know that Nevada has a lot to offer for those who prefer nature and quiet to bright lights and crowds. Here are three of the best natural spots to hike, learn, and appreciate nature around the state!

The Singing Sand Mountain in Fallon

Sand Mountain was once the site of one of the largest lakes in North America. Today it is a two-mile stretch of piled up sand that radiates an eerie hum as the wind blows through it. This is thanks to its very specific size of sand grains…or maybe it’s just haunted.

Bonsai Rock in Lake Tahoe

Right between Hidden Beach and Sand Harbor, right outside of Carson City, is a lookout point into Lake Tahoe from which you can see four iconic little trees growing out of a rock. Bonsai is the art of carefully pruning and caring for trees to keep them tiny enough to live in a flowerpot while still looking like trees. But rather than being cared for by humans, these four trees are small thanks to the harsh conditions they’ve survived for decades. Through wind and weather, they stick it out.

Valley of Fire in Clark County

The Valley of Fire is Nevada’s largest national park and it’s named for its fiery-red sandstone rock formations. The park is also the site of petroglyphs dating back around 2000 years, a remnant of the Anasazi tribe who lived there until 1150 AD.
