If Yemen happens to be one of the countries on your bucket list, its capital of Sanaʽa will probably be the starting point of your journey. This city will leave you in awe with the many architectural wonders it has in store, and here are some of its most breathtaking buildings.

Dar al-Hajar

You’ll stumble upon many historic tower houses while exploring Sanaʽa, usually built with concrete blocks and decorated with stone veneers. Former royal palace Dar al-Hajar, also known as “Stone House” and “Rock Palace”, is one of the best remaining examples of this architectural style.

Bab AL-Yemen

The Gate of Yemen aka Bab AL-Yemen was built during the 17th century, and it’s one of the biggest gems of Yemen’s architecture. This gate offers a look at high-towering houses that Sanaʽa is best known for even before you enter the city, and it’s truly a sight to behold.

Al Saleh Mosque

The largest mosque in Yemen with a capacity of 44,000 is one of the city’s biggest marvels of contemporary architecture. It opened its doors in 2008, and it’s instantly recognizable thanks to its stained glass windows, ornate domes, and beautifully decorated walls.
