France is great, Spain is lovely, and you really can’t beat German weather in the fall, but if you’re in search of a somewhat less popular place to visit in Europe, Croatia should be at the top of your list. This country located along the Adriatic Sea is full of rich culture, fascinating historical sites, and otherworldly natural beauty.

If you plan to visit Croatia, here are a few experiences to put on your itinerary that we definitely recommend you don’t skip.

Go on a Sailing Excursion

The Adriatic Sea may be one of the most beautiful places in the world. Its clear blue waters are dotted with over 1,000 islands, and what better way could there possibly be to take in such sites than from a sailboat? There are plenty of companies like The Day Sail that offer one-day sailing excursions.

Visit Diocletian’s Palace

This ancient palace in the coastal town of Split was built for the Roman emperor in the fourth century AD and today constitutes about half of the town’s old city. Visitors can enter the palace for free, but tickets do need to be purchased in order to access certain buildings within it.

Explore Krka National Park

Anyone with an affinity for the great outdoors should be sure to visit Krka, a national park that boasts 7 waterfalls, fantastic hiking trails, and vistas worthy of a screensaver. We recommend getting tickets in advance, especially during the summer when the park is its most crowded.
