Anyone who tells you that eating is not part of the travel experience is lying. In fact, for some, it’s the entire experience. While a number of tourists stick to street-food, preferring to taste the local cuisine; others take the opportunity to try a few of the world’s top restaurants. If that sounds like you, here’s where you should go.

France

Is it any surprise that the most Michelin stars are found in the country where the concept originated? The culinary capital has around 758 restaurants that have been given the honor of one or more stars. Check out the plant-based Arpège in Paris or head to Marseille to try the Asian fusion at Am par Alexandre Mazzia in Marseille.

Japan

Known for sushi and ramen, Japan is also known for Michelin stars. 544 of them, in fact. If you plan on visiting in the future, we suggest trying to make a reservation at Iida in Kyoto now as it can take 2 years to get a booking! Mizai in Kyoto is another one to try where the matcha is made using holy water from a nearby shrine.

Italy

With 432 Michelin starred restaurants to choose from in Italy, you truly are spoilt for choice. Massimo Bottuta’s Osteria Francescana often finds itself on the list of top eateries in the world; while the molecular gastronomy at Mistral is worth a visit to Lake Como.
