Visiting the iconic Spanish festival La Tomatina should be on everyone’s bucket list. Having a messy tomato fight with strangers on the main square of the beautiful city of Bunol is a unique adventure and something you’ll remember your whole life. But while the event itself has a simple premise, participating in it can be quite a challenge, and many things can ruin your experience. In order to avoid that from happening to you, follow these tips to have the best time at the La Tomatina festival.

Secure Ticket and Accommodation on Time

You actually have to be there to have the best time at La Tomatina. This is why you should secure the ticket and accommodation as soon as possible. Since 2013, each participant must have a ticket while all accommodations get booked months in advance.

Leave Valuables Behind

Things can often get chaotic during the tomato fight itself, meaning people won’t be too considerate towards your camera or phone. Therefore, it is best to leave your valuables behind and take only the things you are willing to sacrifice.

Wear Proper Outfit

Participating in La Tomatina requires a specific dress code. You should wear clothes you will have no problem throwing away later, since it will be impossible to wash. Also, ensure you protect your toes with boots as people will step on them frequently.

Bring a Pair of Goggles

It’s better to be safe than to look good at La Tomatina. Having goggles on will protect your eyes from flying tomatoes and debris while also allowing you to have an advantage over your opponents.

Be Prepared to Lose Your Friends

With so many people in one place, it is almost impossible for groups to stay together during the event. You will lose your friends at one point and will have to look for them afterward. To avoid long searches, agree to a meeting point before everything starts.
