Bedbugs aren’t something that any traveler wants to think about during their trip. But the fact is that they are more common than you might think, and exercising caution can go a long way in stopping them from ruining your trip or nestling in your luggage and becoming an unwanted guest once you return home.
Here is how to check your accommodation for bed bugs on your next trip.
Inspect the Bed
The first thing you should do is inspect the bed you will sleep on. Don’t only look for bed bugs themselves, but also be on the lookout for eggs or red-brownish stains that might be leftover from dead bed bugs.
Be Thorough
It might not be the most fun activity, but you need to be thorough with your inspection. Pull off the sheets and use a flashlight so you don’t miss out on anything. Also, make sure to inspect all corners and the bed frame.
Don’t Skip the Rest of the Room
While bed bugs are commonly found in the sleeping area, they can also nestle in other places. You should also check the rest of the room, including the sofa, curtains, and especially the luggage rack, which is another hotspot for bed bugs.
Leave if You Notice Anything
If you see a bed bug, don’t kill it and think you’ve solved the problem. Be assured there are many more hiding somewhere. Do yourself a favor and leave immediately.
