Golden Gate Bridge. Fisherman’s Wharf. Lombard Street. Union Square. These are some of the many amazing attractions you’ll see during your visit to San Francisco, but one of the most stunning ones is missing from this list. The Hidden Garden Steps on the 16th Avenue are equally worthy of your time and we promise they’ll take your breath away!

It took two years to complete a total of 163 separate mosaic panels, inspired by the legendary Selarón staircase in Rio de Janeiro. Upon the completion of this project, San Francisco’s Sunset district got its own stunning steps – and one of the most colorful attractions in the entire city.

The Hidden Garden Steps were developed out of community interest to create a beautiful gathering place consistent with the nature and spirit of our neighborhood.

Artists and community volunteers participating in mosaic workshops managed to create a wonderful work of earth using tile, mirror, and stained glass, which really brought some color into the life of everyone who ever climbed this staircase to get a beautiful view of San Francisco from the top.
