For others, Wordle is how they cap off their day—one last brain activity before turning over and going to sleep. Regardless of where, how, or when, the online game has taken over the world.
Developed by software engineer, Josh Wardle, in October 2021, it was bought by The New York Times a couple months after becoming a global phenomenon.
Players have 6 chances to guess the 5-letter word, with a study showing that Swedes do it best. According to data obtained by Word Tips, Sweden solves Wordle the quickest, with an average of 3.72 tries. It is followed by Poland and Switzerland.
As for cities, the Australian capital of Canberra comes out top with an average of 3.58 guesses. Next is Jerusalem with 3.63, Malmö and Durban with 3.66, and Paris with 3.69.
The American state with the best Wordle average is North Dakota with 3.65, while an average of 3.51 ranks St. Paul, Minnesota as the United States Capital of Wordle.
