How to Safely Use Hotel WiFi?

These days, nobody even wants to book a hotel room if it doesn’t have a WiFi connection. Whether you travel for work or for pleasure, we live in such a time that we must stay connected at all times. But how do you know if it’s safe to use the hotel’s network? Here are a few things to know.

Public Access

To make it more accessible to every guest, hotels typically leave their networks on public access. This means that the network can be accessed from within the hotel but also from the outside. There’s no real way to monitor the traffic so there’s a risk of your laptop or phone being hacked.

Credit Cards

It’s best if you can avoid entering your credit card info anywhere while using the hotel’s internet connection. This is true for online shopping on your phone as well as for the room TV. It’s a good idea to use a VPN that will connect your computer to a virtual private network, as its name says.

Stay Safe

Only visit secure websites and avoid clicking on the ads while on the hotel’s network. If you don’t need to work, it’s best to avoid using your personal devices as much as you can and use the hotel’s equipment like TV for streaming.
