Indonesia’s Beautiful Multicolored Lakes

There is an old Indonesian saying that when we die, our souls continue to live in the nature around us. Up in the mountains of Indonesia, on the Flores Island, you can find three lakes that change their colors. The legend says that the souls of magicians live in the brown lake, the souls of sinners in the green lake and the souls of kind people live in the blue lake.

As unbelievable as this story sounds, these lakes are very much real and every bit as spectacular as they sound. They really change colors depending on the season, thanks to chemical reactions resulting from the minerals found in the water. This may be the appropriate explanation for this phenomenon, but wouldn’t it be awesome if the legends were true?

From turquoise to black, blue and red, and every shade in between, no color is off-limits here, and the locals say that they are excited to see what color is next on the agenda.

The national park where the lakes are located is a really famous tourist destination, not only because of the lakes, but also because of its incredibly rich flora and fauna.
