As far as movie-themed tourist attractions go, it doesn’t get much better than Hobbiton. This magical place in the heart of New Zealand was built on the grounds of the former movie set for the Lord of the Rings series, and here’s what you should know before paying it a visit.
Crowded Attraction
Hobbiton isn’t one of those attractions that you can explore on your own, so get ready for big crowds during your visit. You’ll have to join a guided walking tour to fully explore it, and it’s highly recommended to stick to your group so you wouldn’t miss out on some important information during your tour.
Advanced Tickets
Hobbiton tickets sell out fast, so don’t wait until the last minute to buy yours. If you’re visiting New Zealand during the off-season, there’s a chance there are going to be free spots, but you shouldn’t take that risk because tickets sometimes sell out weeks or even months in advance.
Time Limit
If you think you can wander around Hobbiton and take pictures all day long—think again. Tours are limited to two hours, and you’ll have to sign up for another one if you want to stay for longer. To get a fuller experience, consider joining the Evening Banquet tour or Second Breakfast tour.
