Pretoria is usually not considered a tourist hotspot like other South African cities like Johannesburg or Durban. However, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t plenty to see here, especially if you have enough time on your hands to really explore the city. Make sure you check out the following tourist attractions.

Rietvlei Nature Reserve

Your first stop should be Rietvlei Nature Reserve. Covering more than 4,000 hectares, the place is known for its diverse flora and fauna. It is home to both domestic and exotic trees and plants, more than 400 bird species, and a number of large mammals, including cheetahs, zebras, and hippopotamuses.

Pretoria National Botanical Garden

Staying within the nature theme, make sure not to miss out on Pretoria National Botanical Garden. Here you can enjoy a relaxing walk while enjoying the sight and smell of thousands of different flower and plant species.

Voortrekker Monument

One of the most visited historic buildings in the country, Voortrekker Monument commemorates settlers who left the Cape Colony in the 19th century to find a place to live in the then-unknown territory. Besides impressive architecture, the place will impress you with its exhibits and the scenic view of Pretoria.

Union Buildings

The Union Buildings are a set of imposing and architecturally impressive buildings that serve as the official meeting place of the South African Government. This site is also known for having a statue of former President of South Africa and anti-apartheid activist Nelson Mandela.
