There are plenty of reasons to travel including seeing new places, exploring new cultures, meeting new people, and having a fun time. However, if you still need another one to prompt you to book a new trip sooner rather than later, consider that traveling can also slow down aging.
Yes, you’ve read it right. According to a recent interdisciplinary study from Edith Cowan University, during which researchers explored the application of the theory of entropy to tourism, travel could have “positive health benefits, including slowing down the signs of aging.”
At the heart of the study is the fact that travel influences people to adopt practices and lifestyles that science has proven can have a positive effect on well-being and slow down the aging effect.
This includes being exposed to new and exciting surroundings, especially nature, taking part in relaxing activities, engaging in social interaction, exercising, and adopting a healthier diet.
All of these effects of travel can lead to reduced stress and positively influence metabolic activities and immune response while reducing wear and tear on our body.
“Put simply, the self-defense system becomes more resilient. Hormones conducive to tissue repair and regeneration may be released and promote the self-healing system’s functioning,” the study’s leading author, Fangli Hu, noted.
So, what are you waiting for? Ditch those anti-aging products and instead start packing your suitcase.
