South America is heaven on Earth for adrenaline junkies because it’s home to countless breathtaking volcanoes. They can be found in pretty much every country on this continent and Peru is no different. If you’re a passionate adventurer visiting this country, here are three spectacular volcanoes that you shouldn’t miss for the world.

Misti

Located near the city of Arequipa, Misti is one of Peru’s most impressive active volcanoes. It hovers 5,822 meters above sea level and it’s a true thrill to reach its summit. There are two climbing routes leading you there, but Misti’s steep loose sand slopes present a major obstacle for newbie hikers.

Chachani

Another breathtaking volcano overlooking the city of Arequipa, Chachani is actually a volcanic group consisting of several lava domes and individual volcanoes. It’s considered to be dormant and you can join a multi-day trek to reach its summit, located at 6,057 meters above sea level.

Coropuna

At an altitude of 6,377 meters, Coropuna is Peru’s highest volcano and the third-highest mountain in general. It’s best known for being home to the largest ice cap in Earth’s tropical zone, with several glaciers and hot springs on its grounds.
