For a completely different holiday experience, why not rent a castle or historic property in the UK? Luxury hotels are great, and bed-and-breakfasts are cute, but we want something otherworldly.

Luckily, the Landmark Trust restores historic buildings in the UK and updates them with some mod cons. And some of them are up for rent. Check out these beauties.

Martello Tower

Situated in Aldeburgh, Suffolk, Martello Tower was built to hold four massive guns to keep Napolean from invading England. Situated right near the sea, the tower took nearly one million bricks to build. Now it’s available for vacation rental.

The Banqueting House

A National Trust property, this “folly” was built in the 18th century, and is situated in Gibside, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. You can view the Gibside Estate and Derwent Valley from the castellated roof.

Cawood Castle

Built during the time of Henry VIII, it was the residence where Cardinal Wolsey was arrested after falling foul of the imperious king. The sweeping views of Yorkshire from the roof are magnificent.

The Tower

This 16th Century house in Canons Ashby in Northamptonshire has incredible gardens. You can occupy an apartment at the top of the tower, while visitors to the property view the gardens.
