Surrounded by the Adriatic Sea is the romantic city of Rovinj. It is best to visit it in June or September, so you can enjoy a swim but avoid the July-August cruise crowds.

This medieval Croatian city has a Gothic atmosphere. Its old cobblestone streets are studded with old churches and cathedrals, like the beautifully elaborate Church of St. Euphemia, where you can climb the old bell tower for a view of the city.

The beautiful harbor is an active fishing port and provides a panoramic view of the seaside architecture. A stroll along the water can be a breezy way to end a grueling day of sightseeing, and the perfect ending of a Malvasia toast in one of the waterside bars.

If you’re wondering where to stay in this gem of a town, try the Hotel Monte Mulini, a hidden-away spot with access to the water that allows a private dip in the Adriatic, a renowned chef restaurant, and a wine cellar that prides itself on a collection of more than 500 Croatian wines.

To complete your Rovinj experience, try the local produce, including Olive oil, honey, and the local variety of grappa, preferably from one of the city’s farmers’ markets.
