When you’re on your travels, whether it be in the distant mountains of Southeast Asia or the deep forests of the Amazon, you may find yourself coming across delicacies you’ve never seen before in your life. Hungry as you are, you may be tempted to try it, and most of the time that’s a very good idea. Trying new foods in different countries is part of what traveling is all about—but here are some things to consider before doing so.

How Different Is It?

If the food you’re looking at truly doesn’t resemble anything you’ve ever seen before, then you need to stop and take a few things into consideration (which we’ll get into shortly). But if the food item in front of you actually looks somewhat familiar, but a tad different than you’re used to, you can probably try it out.

Consider The Source

Another thing to consider is the place where you’re getting the food. If you’re dining at a reputable five-star restaurant in the popular town square, you can probably roll the dice with this exotic-looking dish. But if we’re talking about a food truck in the middle of nowhere, we’d recommend doing some research. This brings us to another great point: do your research on the food in question!
