Are you the adventurous type who enjoys doing something physical and outdoors when you travel? Then you might be interested in learning about the Annapurna Circuit, a hike you can do in Nepal that takes about 12 to 21 days to finish. One of Nepal’s most popular treks, it can be a great experience. Here is everything you should know about it.

The Numbers

Here are the hard facts about the Annapurna Circuit. It’s between 170 and 230 kilometers long, depending on the route you take. The height of the highest mountain in the Annapurna Massif if 8,091 meters, and the highest point of the trek is 5,416 meters (or 17,769 feet for the Americans out there.)

You Typically Won’t Go Alone

Although many backpacking trips are done independently, most people hire a guide and/or porter to accompany them on their Annapurna Circuit trek. Not only will this help literally take some weight off of your back, but you’ll also get important guidance like helping you know how to deal with the altitude.

When To Go

Because the different seasons have a huge impact on where you can hike in Nepal, the Annapurna Circuit is best around October to early December and late February to April. We highly suggest going then and not at other times. Braving crowds is better than dangerous weather conditions.
