]]> Ghent is a small port city located in Belgium. It’s most popularly known to be one of the cheaper alternatives for travel spots in Europe. It’s also a country filled with beautiful architecture and even castles. If you’re passing through to Austria or even Brussels, consider taking a detour in Ghent for a few days to visit some of the beautiful Gothic churches and sites.

Visit Saint Nicholas’ Church

One of the oldest and most important churches in Ghent is the St. Nicholas Church. It was constructed in the 13th century and stands proud today in the center of Cataloniëstraat. It’s definitely worth it to visit this beautiful church and is a quiet spot to retreat after a busy day. Its stained glass windows and paintings are other-worldly and a sight to see even if you aren’t religious.

French Fry Break

After going around and seeing the historical sites, you can’t miss visiting one of the best gourmet fry joints in town. Their fries are topped with delicious and fresh flavors consisting of olive oil, olive and sour cream topped with fresh parsley and lettuce shoots. The tang of the lime zest will leave you wanting more. Don’t forget to make a pitstop here before leaving Ghent.
