]]>Arguably the best vantage point that you can get of the White Cliffs of Dover is from one of the ferries that go from continental Europe to the coastal city. Upon the approach to the city, you will take in a majestic view of these 300+ foot high cliffs that you can’t appreciate from land.
There are a number of hikes in the Dover area that afford majestic viewpoints of the White Cliffs of Dover. Our favorite is the National Trust trail which leaves just above the ferry port. A smooth, gentle 2-hour round trip takes you to the South Foreland Lighthouse and back. You might even be able to see France on a clear day!
While the water is cold and the temperatures aren’t ideal for swimming much of the year in Dover, there are beaches at the foot of the cliffs which provide unique views of the towering structures. The Samphire Hoe Beach is a favorite, located just west of Dover in a nature reserve.

The rural beauty of this area is spectacular in the Fall. Visit natural preserves at October Mountain State Forest or Beartown State Forest, and take in all those glorious colors.

Make the charming town of Bar Harbor your base as you hike through the nearby Acadia National Park. The foliage is at its most colorful in mid-October.
Apart from spectacular mountain views, the Lincoln area offers everything from hiking to poolside relaxation. Hike the Appalachian Trail or the Flume Gorge, or take a gondola up the side of a mountain for a 360-degree view.
