The southeastern coast of France is best known for glamorous cities like Saint-Tropez, Cannes, and the microstate of Monaco. However, hidden among these more popular destinations are some enchanting small towns that exude charm and captivate visitors with their timeless beauty. With cobblestone streets lined with colorful houses and harbors filled with fishing boats, these towns offer an escape from the glitz of larger cities in the region. Read on to learn more about a few of the most beautiful towns on the French Riviera.

Èze

High on a hill overlooking the azure waters of the Mediterranean, Èze is a fairy-tale village filled with medieval charm. Its narrow streets wind their way up to the exotic Jardin Exotique, a cliff-top garden boasting panoramic views of the coastline. The town’s historic buildings, flower-filled balconies, and art galleries create a magical ambiance that has earned Èze a designation as one of the French Riviera’s best-kept secrets.

Saint-Paul-de-Vence

Saint-Paul-de-Vence is a fortified commune that has long attracted painters, writers, and philosophers thanks to its remote location and slow-paced way of life. The streets are lined with boutiques, cafes, and galleries where visitors can immerse themselves in the rich artistic heritage while enjoying the tranquility of this idyllic village.

Villefranche-sur-Mer

This tiny gem on the French Riviera stands out for its pastel-colored buildings and stunning natural harbor. A quaint fishing village with sandy beaches, a picturesque waterfront, and charming promenade, it’s the perfect place to enjoy fresh seafood at family-owned restaurants or simply soak in the Mediterranean atmosphere.

When many people think of France, they think of Paris, but did you know that the southeastern coast is also rich in culture and beauty? Also known as the French Riviera, the string of towns along the Mediterranean sea has plenty to offer any traveler. Here are a few of our favorites.

Èze

Located on top of a hill between Monaco and Nice, Èze is often referred to as the most beautiful village in France. It’s accessible by bus or if you’re feeling adventurous, about an hour hike. It’s a quiet town where travelers can enjoy a visit to their 12th-century church, perfume factory, and even a botanical garden.

Nice

Nice is the capital of the French Riviera and has historically been a home for many famous artists like Matisse. The city has lots of museums for the art-loving traveler to enjoy along with plenty of opportunities to get outside. Bike or rollerblade down the English Promenade, take a stroll through the old town and check out the local markets, or enjoy a Nutella-stuffed crepe on the beach.

Beausoleil

For breathtaking views, look no further than Beausoleil. This French commune, whose name means “Beautiful Sun,” is the place to go if you’re looking to visit Monaco without the Monegasque price tag. The town is less than a kilometer from the famous Monte Carlo casino and Monaco Yacht Club. As it’s situated on a hill, visitors can enjoy stunning views of the sunset over the ocean from almost anywhere in Beausoleil.
