Claude Mont is considered the founder of French Impressionist painting and one of the most influential figures in the field of art. His well-respected works are shown in numerous museums around the world, and especially at Musée Marmottan Monet and l’Orangerie in Paris. However, true art lovers should try and visit the small village of Giverny, where the artist lived and worked most of his life.

Just a short 45 minutes’ train ride will get you to the complex of Monet house and famous Water Garden. The visit is three main attractions: the house, the garden and the Claude Monet Foundation exhibit rooms.

Mont’s house is divided into the private apartment, where you can see the old-style decoration of furniture and kitchen equipment, as well as the “reading room” and other areas where the painter hosted his friends. The entire apartment is decorated with paintings given to Monet by some of his friends in the Impressionist movement, such as Manet and Degas.

Another main attraction is the Garden. Fascinated by the play of light and reflections, this is where Monet created most of his work. Here you can have a first-hand look at the famous Japanese Bridge as well as the water lilies, which are one of Monet’s well-known series of paintings with over 250 different ones.
