]]>As amusing as it sounds, that’s exactly what can be done in the Nordic country this festive season, all thanks to Uber. Instead of ordering a car or van, users can request a sleigh straight out of a Christmas fairy tale that will take them to Santa’s hometown!
“At Uber, we’re always looking at ways to bring a little magic to every trip, and with just the tap of a button you could be on a once-in-a-lifetime tour of one of the most beautiful places on earth,” said Anabel Diaz, vice president and general manager of EMEA Mobility at Uber. “We’re delighted to bring Christmas dreams to life with the launch of Uber Sleigh in Lapland.”
The unique Uber Sleigh experience is free, but works on a first-come, first-served basis so best be quick when booking. Those who are interested in taking the joy ride will be able to choose between going at 10AM or 2PM between December 12 and 18.
The 2-hour journey will venture through snow-covered forests to Rovaniemi which has been declared as Santa’s official hometown. And don’t worry—each sleigh ride includes a blanket!

]]>At the northernmost point of Sweden is Lapland, which is covered with ice and snow in the winter and is a great place for water sports in the summer thanks to the beautiful rushing river Torne. Using ice from the river which freezes in the winter, a local phenomenon is built: the world’s first hotel made of ice. Each year it is reformed in a new shape, and many of the rooms actually allow you to sleep in a decorated cavern made entirely of ice and snow.
Less than an hour outside of Stockholm is Sweden’s very first town, Sigtuna. Its roots go all the way back to the Viking Age, with some buildings still standing since its founding in 980 BCE. There you can view medieval churches and ruins as well as modern boutique shops, bakeries, and bookstores.
Just like any self-respecting European nation, Sweden has a beautiful several-hundreds-years old palace where its royal family resides. Built in 1699, this palace lies on the island of Lovö, just a ferry ride away from Stockholm. In addition to the palace itself, you can view its terraced sculpture gardens and its magnificent theatre with its own theatre museum.
