If you’re a film buff, you will be excited to know that across Europe there are several iconic locations that have been used in some major blockbusters. Often selected for their unique beauty and charm, visiting these places will ensure you have a five-star holiday.

Matera, from James Bond No Time to Die (2021)

This Italian town stunned viewers in the cinema, and the team making the James Bond film made sure to show off all of its stunning vistas and streets. Matera’s neighborhoods are built into limestone cliffs, and many of its buildings are in fact caves. Shelter from the midday sun in a cool, chic cave bar, before venturing out at sunset to capture some golden hour photos, Matera is a glamorous, grow-up destination. Maybe leave the stunt driving around its tiny, cobbled streets to the professionals, though.

Paris, from several films, including Moulin Rouge (2013) and Amélie (2001)

Paris really needs no introduction, and if you want to feel like a movie star there is no better city to sashay down the sidewalk in, wearing your best clothes. The beloved film Amélie, about a young waitress’ imaginative adventures, is largely set in the neighborhood of Montmartre. Expect artisanal delis, cool bars, and pretty cobbled streets leading up to the Sacré-Coeur de Montmartre, the white-domed church with views across Paris.

Bruges, from In Bruges (2008)

This dark comedy, about a pair of gangsters and a hit list that goes wrong, shows the Belgian city of Bruges off to its full potential. Stuffed full of pretty canals, cobbled streets, chic boutiques, and scrumptious chocolate shops, Bruges is the perfect destination for a romantic getaway. Whilst the film includes a fair amount of peril, visitors will have a relaxing time, whiling away the hours on a boat ride around the city, or sampling the different types of Belgian fries.

These locations have made it into films for a reason (in the case of Paris, lots of different films). In their own way, they offer glamor, escapism and beauty—so if you want to live like a star, book your next vacation to Matera, Paris, or Bruges today.

If you’re not faint of heart and take an interest in the ooky, spooky, creepy, and macabre, you may be interested in visiting some haunted locations as you travel around the world. Here are just some of the scary places that you can add to your list.

Recoleta Cemetery in Buenos Aires, Argentina

Cemeteries are already spooky, but this one takes it to the next level because of the tragic story that haunts its past. In 1902, 19-year-old Rufina Cambaceras was accidentally buried alive in this cemetery after doctors incorrectly “confirmed” her death. Though she is now laid to rest in a tomb with a statute that sports her likeness, legend says that Rufina still haunts Recoleta Cemetery to this day.

Rose Hall Plantation in Montego Bay, Jamaica

A former plantation turned historic museum, Rose Hall is rumored to be haunted by the spirit of “Annie Palmer,” also known as the White Witch, who murdered her husband, the plantation’s owner, before eventually being murdered herself by a slave named Takoo.

Voergaard Castle in Denmark

Holding the title of Denmark’s most haunted castle, Voergaard is home to many ghosts including Ingeborg Skeel, who was rumored to be a witch who killed the castle’s architect by throwing him into a moat.
