As much as we adore cheese, we have to admit that our favorite thing about The Netherlands is the tulips. The gorgeous flowers bloom in the springtime and cover fields in rows of red, yellow, pink, and white. The buds have become so synonymous with the Netherlands, that thousands of people flock to the country each year just to see them.

Over 7 million unique tulips can be found at the Keukenhof Gardens, just 20 miles outside of Amsterdam. The gardens have been around since the 15th century and opened to the public in 1949. While the tulips garnered more than 230,000 visitors during its first season, over 1 million are expected in 2023!

“The first tulips and hyacinths are already flowering. Visitors can enjoy a colorful park from day one”, stated the flower exhibitors. “In autumn, Keukenhof’s gardeners planted 7 million flower bulbs by hand. Across the Bollenstreek [bulb growing region] the fields are starting to bloom”.

Those who would like to see the delightful tulips can keep track of where they are popping up with the latest flower report found on Keukenhof’s website. There, they can also purchase tickets to visit the flowering wonderland.

The gardens will be open each day from 8 AM to 7:30 PM, from now until May 14.

Everyone knows that Amsterdam is known for its intricate and beautiful canal system. What most people don’t realize, however, is how many incredible parks are all over the city of Amsterdam as well. Here are some of the most beautiful parks in Amsterdam.

It’s the city best known for its beautiful canals, fun nightlife, and, of course, the famous tulips. Yes, we’re talking about Amsterdam! If you’re thinking of planning a trip to Amsterdam, you want to make sure you get to see everything that this incredible city has to offer. This means that the time you choose to visit is super important.

One of the biggest attractions when visiting Amsterdam is the tulips. From flowers lining the canals to full-on tulip fields on the outskirts of the city, there are tulips everywhere—if you know when to visit. Go at the wrong time, and you won’t see any. This is exactly why you should visit between the months of March and May.

Spring is a wonderful time to visit, and not just because of the tulip festival! With the spring season comes warmer weather, which means great weather to sit outside by the canals. It’s also great biking weather, as it’s not too hot and not too cold. Biking around Amsterdam is a great way to really explore the city like a local. You’ll be shocked at how many bikes you see everywhere you go!

Overall, if you’re planning to visit Amsterdam, springtime is a great opportunity to really experience everything this wonderful city has to offer!

Have you ever wished you could shrink down and take a tour through the inside of a human body à la the kids in The Magic School Bus? While, unfortunately, there are currently no real-life means of such size alteration that we’re aware of, at the CORPUS museum in Oegstgeest, Netherlands, you can come pretty close.

The museum takes visitors on a journey through the human body from an inside perspective—that is, the building itself is shaped like a body.

Along the way, you’ll learn about how different organs and systems work to keep our bodies alive and functioning. What do red blood cells do? How exactly do lungs breathe? What happens when we get injured? All of these questions and more are answered as you move through each exhibit and take part in interactive games and activities. The museum even has a 5D theater as the “heart” of the body.

While CORPUS is designed for visitors of all ages to enjoy, we find it to be an especially enjoyable experience for children ages 6+. Packages are available for group outings including school field trips, and special presentations are held in the entrance hall every month as part of an initiative called CORPUS Kid’s Academy.

Tickets can be purchased here. We recommend booking in advance!

There is no denying that Amsterdam, Netherlands is a fascinating city, and everyone should visit it at least once in their lifetime. But despite that, you shouldn’t invest all your time in the Netherlands on it. The country has many more fun and exciting cities that are worth considering. Check them out below.

Utrecht

Utrecht is a big city with a small-town vibe. You will have the opportunity to experience many intriguing tourist attractions but will never feel overwhelmed. The city is especially a great choice if you enjoy culture, as it boosts the second-highest number of cultural events on an annual basis in the entire county. On top of that, Utrecht’s main railway station is connected with all parts of the country, making it a perfect starting point in exploring the Netherlands.

Rotterdam

Rotterdam is better known for its port than the things it has to offer for tourists. But that is only because the Port of Rotterdam is one of the biggest in the world. The visitors find the city quite exciting and interesting thanks to its international vibe, modern architecture, and plenty of entertainment options. Also, its Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is one of the most significant art institutions in Europe, housing works from Rembrandt, Rubens, Picasso, Matisse, and many other renowned artists.

The Hague

Speaking about museums, you’ll find plenty of them in The Hague. The city is full of museums dedicated to all sorts of subjects, allowing everyone to find one worth visiting. You could also argue that the city is a museum for itself since you’ll find landmarks, monuments, and spots of historical importance on almost every corner. On top of that, the city has an abundance of parks and gardens, while its countryside offers some fantastic sights.

The Hague is one of the most impressive cities that the Netherlands has in store, and you’ll be especially impressed by it if you’re an art lover. Amazing museums and galleries are scattered all around this Dutch city, and here are three that you shouldn’t miss during your visit.

Mauritshuis

The Hague’s no. 1 art museum will impress you if you’re a fan of the Dutch Golden Age. It’s home to over 800 art pieces from such masters as Johannes Vermeer, Rembrandt van Rijn, and Peter Paul Rubens, and it’s best known for being home to Vermeer’s iconic painting Girl with a Pearl Earring.

Kunstmuseum Den Haag

This Dutch city is home to many museums and galleries dedicated to contemporary art, but none of them compares to this one. Located in an impressive Art Deco building, Kunstmuseum welcomes around 400,000 visitors a year and it’s renewed for its impressive collection of Piet Mondrian’s art.

Beelden aan Zee

If you enjoy museums that allow you to step outside, and enjoy nature and art at the same time, Beelden aan Zee is just the thing you’re looking for. This open-air museum is the only Dutch museum specializing in exhibiting sculptures, and mostly features pieces from Theo and Lida Scholten’s private collection.

Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, boasts some of the most famous art museums in the world, meaning it may be hard to narrow down which museums you’ll actually have time to visit. Many of the best museums are walking distance from each other, so taking a full day for museum-hopping or staying nearby and visiting a different one each day is a good idea. Here are a few of the absolute can’t-miss museums in Amsterdam.

Stedelijk Museum

This modern art museum is extremely well-curated, with a few large exhibits which change every so often and many staple modern works as well. Each exhibit provides ample explanation of the artists’ intentions, the cultural impact of the works, and exactly what the viewer may take away from their experience.

Rijksmuseum

If you’ve looked at all at things to do in Amsterdam, you’ve almost certainly come across the Rijksmuseum. An absolute mammoth of a museum with over a million works from throughout art history, seeing the entire thing will most likely be impossible. However, don’t let that deter you—whichever section you choose to experience will absolutely be worth it. Be sure to do a little research first so you can decide in advance exactly which artists or time period you want to see.

Rembrandt House Museum

Rembrandt’s portraits, landscapes, and religious paintings are well-known throughout the world and a staple of every art history class. He happened to live right in the center of the city, and you can now visit his house which is decorated with original paintings and history about the artist.

When you think of spring in the Netherlands, what do you think of?

If you’re anything like me, you probably associate the transition period between cold winters and warm summers in this Northern European country with the beautiful and striking blooming of tulips, which paint the Dutch countryside with color every March, April, and May.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B22KNH1oThM/

Are you interested in seeing these flowers in bloom in the most beautiful place to see them in the entire country? Well, then you’ll need to take a trip to Keukenhof, the Netherlands’ garden par excellence.

Located on what was formerly a hunting ground, in 1949, the mayor of Lisse decided to establish a park to advertise and promote Holland’s most beautiful tulip varieties. It still continues on that mission to this day.

This massive, 79-acre park contains over 7 million tulip flowers annually and gives you a chance to see some of the most striking colors that you’ll see in any flower in the world. The meticulously-planted designs and rows give you a chance to appreciate the true art that can be made by these world-famous flowers.

Be sure to visit Keukenhof in the spring if you’re a tulip lover and want to see them at their peak!
