When it comes to embarking on a stellar vacation that you and your family won’t forget in a hurry, Orlando is often the place to go. This is, of course, assuming that your family loves theme parks, because with the wide array of parks that both Disney and Universal have to offer, you have a lot of options to choose from. But people rarely have enough time or money to visit all of these parks, so which one’s should you go to?

Universal’s Islands of Adventure

Out of all the various parks you can go to in Orlando, there’s a strong argument to be made that Universal’s Islands of Adventure is the most fun. It packs a punch with robust roller coasters such as The Hulk, while also providing a good portion of kid rides too, like in Dr. Seuss world.

Universal’s Volcano Bay

We have to put a water park on this list, and Universal’s Volcano Bay is the best you can find. Not only does it have a long list of exhilarating slides, but one of those slides is revolutionary in that it uses technology to shoot the rider up—instead of only going down.

Disney’s Magic Kingdom

If you’re looking for the perfect Disney experience, make sure to go to Disney’s Magic Kingdom. It’s in this park that you’ll be treated to all of the Disney “fixins”, from the costumed characters to the magic castle itself. Your kids will love you for taking them there, especially if they’re big fans of Disney movies.

If you’re a Harry Potter fan, chances are you’ve thought about visiting Harry Potter world. There are few different versions of Harry Potter world you can go see—there’s one in both LA and Orlando—but the one in Orlando is by far the more popular one. To go there would certainly be an exciting journey, but here’s one thing you should know about it beforehand.

You’ll Need To Buy Two Tickets

If you want to see Harry Potter world in its entirety in Orlando, you’ll need to buy two different tickets: one for Universal Studios and another for Islands of Adventure. This is because the former is home to Diagon Alley, the wizarding shopping center where you can see Gringotts bank, among other attractions; and the latter is home to Hogsmeade, the wizarding village where you can visit all kinds of stores and even visit Hogwarts Castle.

The point is, most true Harry Potter fans would rather see both, but tickets are generally pretty expensive. If you don’t mind paying double to get into both parks, awesome! But it’s good to be aware of it in any case, because others who aren’t may end up disappointed after learning that the Harry Potter attraction they wanted to see was in the other Universal theme park.

Orlando is probably best known for its theme parks that attract millions of tourists to this Floridian city every year. But this doesn’t mean you’ll have nothing to do if you are not into Disney World or Legoland. In fact, there’s more than you could imagine.

Orlando International Premium Outlets

Shopping is always fun and one of the best places to do it in Orlando is Orlando International Premium Outlets. Here you’ll find products from top brands like Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, and Adidas for discount prices. There are also plenty of great restaurants that will allow you to catch a breather from carrying shopping bags all day.

Orlando Museum of Art

The museum focuses on contemporary art as well as American art and African art. Aside from its permanent collections, the Orlando Museum of Art often features temporary exhibitions and traveling shows.

Lake Eola Park

If you just want a relaxing walk or a place to gather your thoughts, Lake Eola Park is a perfect choice. It features various gardens, monuments, and public art areas that you can explore. There are various events organized in the park throughout the year, including concerts, arts and crafts shows, and farmers’ markets.

Orlando Science Center

A visit to this private science museum will allow you to learn more about science and technology through an extensive collection of fossils, science objects, and interactive exhibitions.

When many people think about Orlando, Florida, the first thing that usually comes to mind is that it’s the home of Disney and Universal. If you’re someone who loves theme parks, there’s pretty much no question that Orlando is the place to be—because it has endless parks to check out. Whether you want to visit Harry Potter world, Disney’s Magical Kingdom, or Universal’s Islands of Adventure, you can’t go wrong. But is there anything else to do in Orlando?

Not Exactly a Place To Live For Good

The thing about Orlando is that it’s not exactly a place where many families live. The previous statement should obviously be taken with a hefty grain of salt. Thousands of families obviously live in Orlando, but compared to other cities of similar stature, the number of families is shockingly low. This is because Orlando wasn’t exactly designed to be a family town to live, rather a place for families to visit and enjoy an exhilarating and magical vacation.

So if you’re thinking about moving to Orlando, perhaps you should think twice about the matter. Because as exciting as the theme parks are, you may find that they can get old after a while. You may also find that they’re insanely expensive and that it’s not much use living close to them if you’re breaking the bank every single time you go to one.

Travel destinations aren’t always about where you can find the most beautiful architecture, the most provocative art, or the most stunning nature trails. Sometimes what you really want to do is to go to some good old-fashioned theme parks. When it comes to Orlando, they’ve got tons of them. And they’re all pretty amazing if you ask us. However, if you’re looking to go to more than one, it’ll cost an arm and leg.

Walt Disney World

The main crux of Orlando’s various theme parks boil down to these two major corporations: Disney and Universal. You can buy tickets to Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, or Epcot. Yes, those are four separate parks, and they’re all expensive. But whichever you choose, know that you’ll be dancing with real-sized Goofys and Jafars and your kids will love you for it.

Universal Studios

If you want to go the Universal route, you can visit Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, or Volcano Bay. These are also incredibly exciting amusement parks, which also include Harry Potter World, if that’s your kind of thing.

Is It Worth It?

So basically there’s no shortage of things to do in Orlando, whether you have kids, a romantic partner, or just want to go solo. If you spend money on one park, it won’t set you back that much—if you want to see other parks too, that’s when things start to get expensive. If it’s something you can afford, you certainly won’t be disappointed.

With travel restrictions easing, there’s one special place we’re looking forward to revisiting this summer: the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios. Offering a truly immersive experience, you don’t have to be a Potter head to enjoy its attractions, though it won’t hurt. The Wizarding World offers a recreation of the actual Hogwarts castle, the shops of Hogsmeade, and even an uncanny representation of Diagon Alley.

One thing you don’t want to skip when visiting the theme park is the food. Who can forget Harry’s first trip on the Hogwarts Express, where he was introduced to the wizarding world via the trolley? It was this iconic scene where we as readers “tasted” our first Chocolate Frogs (and collected our first collectible cards), were intrigued/discussed by Bertie Bott’s Every-Flavour Beans, and gobbled up a Cauldron Cake.

From pumpkin juice to Butterbeer, to dinner in the Great Hall where food magically appears and disappears, there are plenty of unforgettable Harry Potter food experiences unique to JK Rowling’s fantasy world.

You can expect these treats to pop up in Orlando’s Wizarding World. Indeed, the food in the Wizarding World is not like your typical theme park food. Well thought out, it is indicative of the Harry Potter books and adds to the overall fantasy experience. Snack and drink carts are readily available and themed restaurants, such as the Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade and the Leaky Cauldron in Diagon Alley will make you feel like you yourself have been accepted into the wizarding world.

“You want these beverages to be cool, and I don’t mean cold,” stressed the corporate executive chef of Universal Orlando Parks and Resorts, Steven Jayson, in an interview with USAtoday. “You want them to be neat. You want people to see them and be excited and say, ‘I’ve got to try that.’ And then when they get it, they’re excited about what they got, that they love it.”

It comes as no surprise that the Butterbeer offered at the theme park proved to be the ultimate treat in Orlando. Consisting of a cream soda-meets-butterscotch flavor and a sweet whipped topping, Butterbeer originally came in two versions: cold and frozen. “We found out very, very quickly when we opened that Butterbeer was definitely an overnight homerun,” said Jayson. “Hands down, that’s the one thing that we’ve created here at Universal Orlando that stands alone.”
