]]>Pompeii is known internationally as an ancient city which was preserved because of the eruption of a volcano. The volcano was able to preserve bodies, painting, architecture and cultural artifacts of all kinds making Pompeii a unique place to experience the lives of people from another time.
When visiting Pompeii you will find that there are large crowds of people and while the paths and ground are fairly even wearing good walking shoes is advised since the area to explore is so large.
In Pompeii, there are five active archaeological sites that are open to tour by the public. Be sure to buy tickets ahead of time. If you would like additional information you can take a guided tour by a professional. These fill up very fast (especially the morning tours) so we would suggest getting tickets for the tours ahead of time as well. If you choose to opt out of a tour you will have more flexibility in which sites you are able to see. Most visitors spend around three hours in Pompeii but you could choose to spend the whole day there until the site closes at night.
