In the past, the former Portuguese colony was an important center of cocoa and sugar production, as well as an important location in the trade routes, and because of that it has a rich history full of various European influences.

The islands are a real tropical paradise – most of them are covered in rainforests and they have a really small population.

The Obo National Park, tucked away in the interior of the Sao Tome Island, offers spectacular tours for bird watching, mountain climbing and marveling at the Boca do Inferno (Mouth of Hell).

The island of Principe is full of isolated, untouched beaches that are some of the most remote and romantic in the world.

One of the best things you can do on the island is going snorkeling or diving, since the underwater world that is surrounding this paradise is astonishingly rich.

Once there, you should also visit the Fort Sao Sebastiao, which dates to 1575 and has been since turned into a museum.
