When visiting Los Angeles, there are tons of sites to see—like Hollywood and Beverly Hills—but the Californian city is also home to some of the most famous sports arenas in the country. Even though LA doesn’t have a National Football League team, the sports teams and arenas are well worth checking out for any sports lover. Here’s everything you need to know before planning your visit to LA.

Staples Center

Home to the LA Lakers, LA Sparks, and LA Kings—the Staples Center is a multipurpose sports arena located in Downtown LA. The Lakers have won 16 National Championships and had some of the best players—like Wilt Chamberlin, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Shaquille O’Neill, and Kobe Bryant.

Dodgers Stadium

Dodgers Stadium is the third oldest ballpark in MLB and is often referred to as “pitcher’s ballpark.” The stadium is home to the Dodgers, who have won six World Series titles and 21 national league pennants. The Dodgers have had famous players including Sandy Koufax, Don Drysdale, Jackie Robinson, Duke Snyder, Greg Maddux, Pedro Martinez, and Clayton Kershaw.

The Coliseum

The LA Coliseum is home to the USC Trojans, and it’s the first stadium to have hosted the Olympic Games twice—in 1932 and 1984. It has also hosted World Series and Super Bowls. In 1984, it was declared a National Historic Landmark, and since then, it’s undergone many changes. The Olympic Torch, which still stands and is lit during the USC football games and special occasions, was built for the two games held in the Coliseum.

The National Basketball Association is one of the world’s most exciting and dynamic sports leagues. The best hoopers in the entire world square off from October to June every year for a chance to claim the NBA title.

One of the main draws of the league is its fantastic arenas and game-day experiences. If you’re a fan looking to dive head-first into what the NBA’s passion and excitement feel like, here are three arenas you must visit.

Madison Square Garden: New York Knicks

The New York Knicks’ home arena of Madison Square Garden is considered a Mecca of basketball and with good reason. This Manhattan arena is full to the brim with over 20,000 rabid fans and New York celebrities for every home game, who cheer on the Knicks in sickness and in health.

Staples Center: Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers

On the other coast is the Staples Center, which was finished in 1999 and is considered to be one of the best places to see an NBA game in the country. The Los Angeles Lakers are the most famous tenant here, but the Clippers also put on a show in a city where there is live basketball multiple times per week to see.

Moda Center: Portland Trail Blazers

While the Portland Trail Blazers’ home might not be as famous as the previous two arenas, if you’re looking for pure passion and excitement, this is the place to go. Portland fans are considered some of the most passionate and rowdiest in the NBA, making every game at the Moda Center an exciting affair.

When visiting new cities, many people overlook one of the biggest cultural influences in Untied States culture—sports. A lot of money goes into sports, and it’s definitely evident in the stadiums. While there are tons of sports stadiums in the country, these are the ones worth checking out.

New Yankee Stadium, MLB

Located in New York, New York and home to the New York Yankees and the future home of the New York City FC of MLS, the stadium is one of the newer ones. The stadium opened in 2009 and one of the best things to see is the “Great Hall” located between the outside and inside walls that runs between gates 4 and 6. You’ll see banners of Yankee stars and LED screens. At Gate 6 you can check out Yankee memorabilia and highlights of Yankee moments.

AT&T Stadium, NFL

Home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys, and opened in 2009, the stadium’s best feature is the HD television screen which was the largest in the world when the stadium opened. The Party Press section allows standing room for 25,000 people and there are 80,0000 seats in the stadium. There are also 3,000 LCD TV screens, so you’ll never miss any of the action.

Staples Center, NBA, WNBA, NHL
