Minion madness is heading to Florida!

When Despicable Me hit theaters in 2010, no one expected three little yellow guys to take over the world (wasn’t that Gru’s job?). Put it down to cuteness, their dungarees, or that silly banana song, but Minions have made an impact. And now, they’re getting a brand new attraction at Universal Studios!

While a Despicable Me Minion Mayhem attraction already exists, the new one will be entitled Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast, and will be based on the storyline from Minions: The Rise of Gru.

Guests will have the chance to experience Villain-Con and see if they have what it takes to become a member of The Vicious 6 supervillain gang while blasting items on a moving walkway. According to Universal, the ride will feature “innovative screen technology, state-of-the-art gaming interactivity, and elaborate physical sets to create a one-of-a-kind, game-based adventure where guests encounter immersive environments, nefarious villains, and tons of mischievous Minions.”

And just in case that is not enough Minion mania for you, the attraction, which opens next summer, will form part of a new Minion Land that is even set to include a Minion Café.

This year, Universal Studios cancelled its infamous “Halloween Horror Nights” in response to new health and safety measures. Shortly after, the Studios announced that they would instead be hosing “Haunted House Weekends” during October.

The houses will include the maze “Universal Monsters: The Bride of Frankenstein Lives” and “Revenge of the Tooth Fairy.” As usual, there will also be scare zones, shows, and other Halloween-themed activities. The haunted houses are the main attraction of the event.

According to the Orlando Informer, these haunted houses “are best described as ‘movie-set quality’ recreations of fantastic and fearsome locations. Sometimes referred to as mazes, each house is indoors, often set up in the unused queue area of a daytime attraction or one of the Universal soundstages.

“These haunts rely on every effect you can imagine to scare the pants off you—including hideous creatures, blood-curdling sound effects, loud music, tight passages, strobe lights, air bursts, mirror effects, and, of course, very elaborate—and, in many cases, very gruesome—props and set decoration.”

Guests will be sent into the haunted houses in small groups in accordance with the latest Covid-19 rules.
