Travel can be a big part of your life if you choose the right career. Some jobs allow more flexibility so you can travel while others pretty much require it. Here are the best careers for people who enjoy traveling.

Pilots and Flight Engineers

Not only these are some of the highest-paying jobs, but there’s currently a demand in the market. Flying for a living can help you get to know many parts of the planet. Becoming a pilot or a flight engineer requires advanced education, but you can also become a member of the flight crew and enjoy a similar experience regarding travel.

Yacht Crew

For those who want to see the world, one of the best jobs is becoming a member of the yacht crew. There are many different jobs you can do there for very different salaries. Basic positions start at around $2,500 per month but captains and chief engineers make over $13,000 or even $20,000 every month.

English Teacher

English teachers are in demand all over the world. You can get a job as a private tutor, in a big company or in a language school. Pay varies a lot based on where you go. For example, you can earn around $2,000 per month as an English teacher in South Korea with paid housing.

We all know that when you are living a life on the road, it can be hard to keep up with work—whether it is working from your computer while you travel or finding work in each new place you go. Thankfully, there are a number of opportunities for travelers to work while also having housing and living expenses accounted for.

Here are some ideas for ways to make some money while you are moving from place to place.

TEFL

Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) may require a course beforehand, but the opportunities are incredible. There are schools all over the world that want their students to learn English from native speakers. Beyond housing and a paycheck, there may also be opportunities for foreign language courses and travel in the country you work. You can also make good money and work from your computer by offering tutoring sessions to students from abroad.

WWOOF

The acronym stands for Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms. The goal of the organization is to connect travelers with farmers from around the world to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and culture. Hosts in countries around the world provide food, housing, and teach you about sustainable agriculture in exchange for help on their land. It is currently possible to WWOOF in more than 60 countries around the world.

Volunteer at a Hostel

As you travel, many hostels need volunteers and will offer you berthing and facilities in exchange for help. If you find a particular place you are enjoying, these opportunities can often be arranged short-term as well. The system allows travelers to exchange information and help one another out, and if you stick around in one place, this volunteer work will also provide you with the opportunity to meet wonderful people.

When you first learn about the digital nomad lifestyle, it probably sounds like a dream. Are there really people who get to travel the world and work and earn money along the way? There are many of them, and they do many different kinds of jobs. Here are a few things about this lifestyle nobody tells you upfront.

It Can Be Very Hard

If your idea of a digital nomad life is to travel, take photos, post them on Instagram, and magically earn money from that, we have to tell you that the reality is typically more difficult. There are so many people trying this exact thing, and the number of those who succeed is terribly low. A digital nomad lifestyle requires you to do the actual work, spend hours every day on your laptop or phone, and that can get frustrating when you’d rather explore a new area instead.

What You Can Do

There are so many options for remote work, and we’re just starting to be aware of them all. Chances are, if you’re thinking about adopting this type of life—you already have a job that could be done remotely, so consider starting from there. Make sure your boss trusts you, and be confident about doing the world independently before making the leap.

Who among us does not dream of an endless vacation, working from the beach or a cafe somewhere far away?

And yet, most people have not packed up their bags and moved to work from an endless vacation. Fact is, most of us still prefer to work from an office that has four walls, because it is just more convenient. Even working from home requires a lot of self-discipline and the ability to concentrate on work for long enough without distractions.

The good news is that today our corporate culture is starting to change for the better—especially in the technology sector—and many employers understand that in a few years it will no longer be possible to ignore employee’s demands not to be confined to their office chair.

Some lessons I've learned and mistakes I made as a digital nomad, freelancer, and remote social media manager this past year 👇 … ⠀ 😳💰 You are what you think you are worth. The mistake I made early on was UNDERCHARGING for my services. Because I was undercharging, I took on too many clients in order to meet the monthly quota of income that I wanted. ⠀ This led to a ton of juggling 🤹‍♀️ and stress on my end. Some days I would get a barrage of requests from my different clients. I was barely able to keep on top of all the work and also barely earning enough income! 🤯 Some days, my work would also be subpar due to all the juggling. So frustrating! ⠀ And of course, there was no sympathy from my clients. And even if there was, I didn't feel like I deserved it. After all, I was the one who suggested the price! Now it was my responsibility to follow through! ⠀ Finally, one day a potential client approached me and asked me for my prices. For once, I didn't tell them my rate, but asked them what they were looking for. They proceeded to give me a budget that was 6x what I was charging my current clients 🤯 ⠀ This experience completely changed my perception of what my services are worth and how I would like to work in the future. In the future, instead of working with a ton of small clients paying a small budget, I would like to work with a couple large clients whose products and services I believe in and that I can really focus in on so I can deliver good work! 💝💝 ⠀ Anyways, such some retrospective thoughts. Are you a freelancer? Would you like to be one? What has been your experience? ⠀ 📍 Nakhon Si Ban Na Homestay, near the Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport in South Thailand. Super cute, authentic homestay: a little hut made of bamboo perched over a small pond in a rubber tree plantation. Found it through Booking.com and chose it because of the all the positive reviews! Lovely place to stay for a night ☺ Cheers ⠀ 🖋MY BACKSTORY moved in 2019 to THAILAND🌴 to continue pursuing DREAMS of travelling the world🌎 and becoming a kickass digital nomad/online entrepreneur💻 and Muay Thai fighter🥊 What's your story? 😊

If this is your dream, try it out for a few months, and see if you can be effective while working remotely. Choose a destination you think is right for you in terms of time differences, and that you can combine personal life and work with.

Choose a place with good internet infrastructure, as well as access to regular flights in case you need to return to your country at short notice.

If it works, you can take a deep breath and start living the dream.
