You can hardly go wrong with picking Zimbabwe as the destination for your next trip. The country is home to numerous exciting attractions, including the world’s biggest waterfall and some of the best safari in this part of Africa, and welcomes tourists with open arms. However, there are some things your need to know before visiting Zimbabwe.

Country’s Unofficial Currency is U.S. Dollar

Zimbabwe’s official currency is the Zimbabwean Dollar, but the U.S. dollar is actually the preferred form of payment for goods and services. However, there has been a shortage of cash in the country for some time now, and the banks have imposed restrictions on how much money you can withdraw. This is why you should look to bring a healthy amount of cash on your trip.

Language Barrier Won’t Be an Issue

The constitution of Zimbabwe recognizes 16 different official languages. However, don’t be afraid of the language barrier as English is one of them, and an estimated 90 percent of the population speaks it fluently.

The Best Time to Visit is Between May and September

Most people recommend visiting Zimbabwe in April if your sole purpose is to check out Victoria Falls since they are at their best at this time of the year. However, if you want to explore everything the country has to offer, head book your trip at some point between May and September. This period is characterized by dry weather and mild temperatures.

Bonus: Chibuku is an Acquired Taste

Sorghum beer called Chibuku is Zimbabwe’s traditional drink that you can get in almost any bar or convenience store in the country. However, don’t expect it to be like the beers you’ve got accustomed to at home. Most tourists find it unpleasant, and you’ll need to have more than a few glasses to get accustomed to it.

Victoria Falls is the first place that comes to mind when someone mentions both Zambia and Zimbabwe since it lays on the border between these African countries. The majority of other Zimbabwean waterfalls are overshadowed by Victoria’s size and beauty, but these three definitely deserve more attention.

Mutarazi Falls

Located inside the breathtaking Nyanga National Park, Mutarazi Falls is Africa’s second-highest waterfall. One of its biggest hits with the tourists is Mutarazi Falls Skyline and Skywalk, which offers a suspension bridge with breathtaking views and one of the world’s highest zip lines.

Nyangombe Falls

Mutarazi Fall may be Nyanga National Park’s most impressive waterfall, but it’s not the only one. If you’re in the mood for a more low-key experience, head to Nyangombe Falls with a natural swimming pool on the western side of the national park.

Bridal Veil Falls

If you enjoy discovering remote and hidden places that most other people don’t get to see, head to Zimbabwe’s Chimanimani National Park. It’s home to beautiful Bridal Veil Fall with a stunning plunge pool known as Tessa’s Pool.
