Tangier: The Spanish City in Morocco

Going to Tangier is a 5-hour train ride from Casablanca (if you opt for the train). Upon arriving in Tangier, you’ll see the influence of Spain in the city’s architecture, including their ornate doors.

The language spoken in Tangier is predominantly Spanish, so don’t be surprised if you hear locals speak it. This would probably be a good time to learn a new foreign language and some helpful keywords and phrases.

Romantic City

Tangier is a city for everyone, including lovers. You’ll find that they have quaint boutique hostels scattered around the area. Don’t miss the Kasbah, which offers a bird’s eye view of the surrounding area atop a hill. In the Kasbah area, you’ll notice the Sultan’s Palace, which showcases traditional Moroccan art.

Visit The Medina

The Medina is a bustling area lined with alleys and crammed with tiny shops. This is the perfect place to buy souvenirs for family and friends back home (just remember to haggle!). In Tangier, The Medina is equivalent to a marketplace full of colorful and eclectic accessories and decorations.

Drive to the Beaches

If you’re looking for some fun in the sun, Tangier isn’t the place for that. Their beaches are great for picnics and hanging out by the shore but not so much to swim in. If you’re looking for a place to swim to your heart’s desire, consider driving 10 km to the West. There you’ll find some nice spots for chilling by the beach and even surfing.
