Taos is a large town in New Mexico that is often looked over. Though Santa Fe and Albuquerque are two cool cities, Taos is a completely different world. Taos is known as being a hot spot for artists and artisans in New Mexico, and you can find some truly breathtaking work in so many mediums. It’s also stunning since it is surrounded by the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

You definitely should go to the Taos Pueblo while you’re visiting, as it is a living relic of history. The community was inhabited by the Native American Puebloan people for over 1,000 years, and most of the buildings that are still standing have been around for 600-1,000 years.

There are so many different places to experience art in Taos, but one that you cannot miss it the Harwood Museum of Art. The pieces are all done by local artists and you really get a feel for the region through their art.

Another interesting museum that combines art and local jewelry is the Millicent Rogers Museum. Millicent donated much of her locally made turquoise jewelry to be on display, but the museum also has many other pieces by famous people like Maria Martinez the famous potter, as well as pieces of art from up to 2,000 years ago.
