If tequila is your tipple of choice, you have to take a ride on this unique Mexican train!
You may have heard of Jose Cuervo, the world’s best-selling brand of tequila. The brand’s history dates back to the 1700s when the King of Spain granted the Cuervo family permission to produce the spirit commercially. As the first distiller to bottle tequila (which at that stage had only been done in barrels), the Cuervo family sold its first bottle in 1906.
More than a century later, in 2012, the Jose Cuervo Express train was established. The purpose of the train was to promote tourism to the area of Jalisco where the town of Tequila is located.
Those interested in learning the drink’s history can do so aboard the 11-hour train ride from Guadalajara to Tequila. During the journey, commuters can take part in agave harvesting, tequila tastings, and enjoy a few Mexican snacks while playing Mexican bingo known as Loteria.
Depending on which ticket passengers purchase, they will be seated in one of the train’s luxurious wagons—the Express, Premium Plus, Diamond, and Elite. The Elite, for example, also includes a tour of the Reserva de la Familia private cellar.
The experience also includes spectacular views, so you can sip your tequila while watching the world go by.
