If you love nature and animals, or if you have kids, then you probably enjoy spending time at the zoo. Zoos are a great place to learn about not only what kinds of creatures exist in the world, but all the different habitats, climates, and landscapes far from home. Most major cities have some kind of zoo exhibition on view, so they are easily accessible wherever you are. Here are some of the best.

The Bronx zoo is over a hundred years old and houses the very first animal hospital in the world. It’s one of the biggest zoos in the U.S., with the Bronx River flowing right down its middle and no less than 6,000 animals of over 700 species. It’s easily accessible from the city, so this is a great option if you need something to do on a day off in New York.
